How to watch Jaguars vs. Texans is on and how to watch it via live online stream CBS will be broadcasting Sunday’s NFL game between Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET from NRG Stadium in Houston. Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but the Jacksonville Jaguars finally have their franchise quarterback. Apologies to Blake Bortles, Trevor Lawrence looks like the real deal. Heading up the operation is famed college coach Urban Meyer who made the jump to the NFL this year. The Jaguars aren’t expected to be a playoff team this season, but they should at least finish well ahead of their AFC South rivals, the Texans. With the situations around quarterback DeShaun Watson still unresolved—he’s sticking by trade demands and is currently under investigation for more than 20 sexual assault allegations—the Texans are rolling with veteran Tyrod Taylor as their starter. The roster is pretty threadbare overall. Their best players are arguably offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and receiver Brandin Cooks. Houston’s playing out the string this year, starting with this game. NFL Sunday Ticket is available via live online stream even if you don’t have a DirecTV account. Texans vs. Jaguars prediction, line: Trevor Lawrence may not pull it off HOUSTON TEXANS (+3) over Jacksonville Jaguars: It’s difficult to resist Houston plus the points. The home side boasts a solid brace of running backs who can aid and abet Tyrod Taylor in his quest to keep the ball away from huge-rep Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence. We’ll grab the tray in a matchup in which the last team to score likely covers. Houston, for one unit. LOS ANGELES RAMS (-7.5) over Chicago Bears: Despite the spread inflation that has taken place on this side, given that QB Andy Dalton’s expected to start for the visitors, the Rams’ defense is justifiably a confident item at SoFi Stadium. Though we are bullish on rookie Bears QB Justin Fields’ prospects as he gains experience, this looms the wrong time at the wrong place for this underdog. Not wholly sold on Rams QB Matthew Stafford down the road in more challenging spots against better foes, but the evening lights should shine bright on L.A. here, for one unit. AFC South rivals will face off on Sunday afternoon when the Jacksonville Jaguars visit the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium in the 2021 season opener for both teams. Jacksonville begins a new era under head coach Urban Meyer after turning in the worst season in franchise history a year ago with a 1-15 record. Houston is also led by first-year head coach David Culley after going 4-12 in 2020, tied for its worst mark in 15 years. The Texans hold a 25-13 lead all-time in this divisional matchup and have won six straight games over Jacksonville, including most recently a 27-25 road victory in Week 8 of last season. Lawrence, Meyer make debuts as Jacksonville hopes for quick turnaround Just three seasons after nearly reaching the Super Bowl, the Jaguars suddenly put up the worst record in the entire NFL last year, with only a 27-20 upset victory over the Indianapolis Colts all the way back in Week 1 separating Jacksonville from a winless campaign. The good news is that Jacksonville earned the No. 1 overall pick for that performance and was able to select a generational talent in quarterback Trevor Lawrence while also hiring Meyer, a three-time national champion from the college ranks. “It’s just a little different... you can’t lose a game in college,” Meyer told the Associated Press about his NFL debut after nearly 30 years as a college coach. “Professional football, reality is reality. But yeah, heck yeah, this is a tone-setter, this is a setter for everything.” Jacksonville was at least a lot better against the spread last season at 7-9, although it failed to cover in three of its last four games as things got ugly with several blowouts near the end. Overs went 8-8 for the Jaguars in 2020, including an even 1-1 in the season series against the Texans. Last season was a mess for the Jaguars on both sides of the ball, as they averaged 19.1 points per game to rank 30th in the NFL on 326.1 yards per contest. The defense graded out even worse, with opponents piling up 30.8 points and 417.7 points per game. There's plenty of existing talent on the offense for Lawrence to work with, as undrafted free agent James Robinson piled up 1,414 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns as a rookie while DJ Chark reeled in 53 catches for 706 yards and five scores in just 12 games. The defense is more of an unknown, although pass rusher Josh Allen could be set to make a huge leap after recording 7.5 tackles for loss and 11 quarterback hits in only eight games. Jacksonville was dealt a huge blow in the preseason, as rookie running back Travis Etienne went down with a season-ending foot injury after being selected in the first round. The only other players on the injury report are cornerbacks Tyson Campbell (calf) and Tre Herndon (sprained MCL), as it's unclear if either will play on Sunday. Massive rebuild gets underway in Houston A tumultuous offseason has left more questions than answers in Houston, as the team finally parted with Bill O'Brien after seven years as head coach and two seasons as general managed following numerous questionable personnel decisions. Stars of yesteryear like J.J. Watt are now elsewhere while there's an uncertain dynamic in the front office as former character coach Jack Easterby has risen up the ranks, but a veteran coach in Culley has already made strides to establish a culture in his first shot at a head gig. Tyrod Taylor is also going to get the first crack at the starting quarterback job after starting one game with the Los Angeles Chargers last year before being replaced by rookie Justin Herbert. “Everything that has happened in my career up to this point has prepared me for this moment,” Taylor said to the Associated Press. “I’m having fun, playing with a peace of mind and just looking forward to going out and making plays and helping our team win.” Jags elevate DB Brandon Rusnak, WR Devin Smith from practice squad for Week 1 game vs. Texans As they will do often throughout the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars elevated a pair of players from their practice squad heading into Week 1’s game against the Houston Texans. Those players were defensive back Brandon Rusnak and receiver Devin Smith. The decision to call up Rusnak was the one that was the most expected as the Jags are down one cornerback in Tre Herndon. Herndon sprained his MCL in the first game of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns and was ruled out on Friday. As for Smith, he’s a familiar player to Jags coach Urban Meyer, who also coached him in college at Ohio State. He’s entering his seventh season in the NFL and could help the Jags as a speed threat down the field as their sixth receiver and on special teams. Kickoff for the Jags and Texans game will take place at 1 p.m. EST at NRG Stadium and all the information needed to tune in can be found here.
